Thanks Puntjuh I also installed the drivers by using rpm2tgz and installpkg set up the printer with cups and the test mcf240c printed, the printer is detected as default so I tried to print a few diferent text files a mousepad file, a vim file and some random stuff and the printer comes up when using the print command but the printer doesn’t do anything.
I installed drivers for a brother mfcc on slack 13 the printer is recognized and set up in cups it printed the test page but will not print anything else.
I also read that most slack users, instead of rpm2tar use the package alien with the -c -t options, for better slackware compatibility. Let me know what you find. Are you new to LinuxQuestions.

You could download the drivers for the MFC C from the brothers website but if you’re looking for the PaperPort 12 software that came with the original disk they now want to charge you for it.
